|Our founding in 1964 - 58 years ago
Marlborough Historical Society was founded by a group of
residents who felt the need for an organization to
preserve the history of the town of Marlborough. The
Society was chartered under the laws of the State of New
Hampshire as a non-profit educational and charitable
corporation on September 25, 1964. For over 25
years, we have been listed by the IRS as a 501(c)3
|The purposes of the
Society are three-fold:
consists of many artifacts, photographs and documents
donated over the years by residents who wanted the
items preserved and shared with other residents, present
and future. We have a large collection of photos and post
cards, a variety of clothing items, articles related to
the school, old industries and businesses, fraternal
organizations, the Library and various town departments.
We also have books and articles on town history, maps, and
other printed & hand-written documents.
Sweetser Tavern was operated by Phillips Sweetser in
the early 1800s –
it was located on Frost Hill Road near where the gazebo sits today.
